Board of Directors Application

If/when an opening becomes available, we may contact you to schedule an interview and continue the discussion of your candidacy for a board member position.

Members of the Board of Directors are appointed and elected representatives of C.I.T.Y. of Support who are responsible for policy formation, governance, and fiscal matters pertaining to C.I.T.Y. of Support.  The Board of Directors oversee all activities and ensure that they remain in line with the organization’s mission and goals. Board of Directors hold a two year term. A full list of expectations are below.
 
Ideal Candidates:
  1. Are involved in the C.I.T.Y. of Support community.
  2. Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and are able to collaborate with a diverse Board of Directors.
  3. Have knowledge of or are willing to learn about C.I.T.Y. of Support’s mission and goals.
  4. Have knowledge of or are willing to learn about different aspects of non-profit organizations such as by-laws, policy development, financial responsibility, strategic planning, marketing skills, event planning, and/or social media networking.
  5. Are eager to help develop and improve programs, events, and initiatives that are central to our mission during our interactive board meetings. Monthly board meetings occur on the first Wednesday of the month at 7pm in an online format (zoom), with the exception of 2 in-person board meetings (December and May). 
  6. Are familiar with the Board Member Agreement (below).

Complete the application form.  Once submitted, your application will remain in our file for consideration. If/when an opening becomes available, we may contact you to schedule an interview and continue the discussion of your candidacy for a board member position.


Nomination Process:

  1. Interested candidates will submit applications using the form below.
  2. The Board Nomination Committee will review the applications, and they will consider candidates for potential immediate and future addition to our Board of Directors.
  3. As appropriate, they will conduct interviews, bringing recommendations to the full Board of Directors.
  4. The board will take all input under advisement and participate in a final vote.  
  5. Applications will remain on file, and all applicants will continue to be considered for open positions as they become available.
Board Member Agreement

As a member of the C.I.T.Y. of Support Board of Directors, I agree to: 

  • Always have the best interest of the organization in mind, aligning with C.I.T.Y. of Support’s mission, vision, and beliefs, while serving as an ambassador for the organization within the community. 
  • When possible, leverage your skills and contacts to help sustain our organization’s growth. 
  • Participate in discussions & decisions relating to the financial well-being and oversight of the organization, ensuring that C.I.T.Y. of Support remains fiscally responsible in current & future planning. 
  • Understand C.I.T.Y. of Support’s by-laws, especially as they relate to the participation and tenure of a board member (currently 2 years). I understand that my participation on this board is voluntary and can be terminated at any time via a majority vote of the current board members of the organization. 
  • Attend 90% of virtual committee meetings, providing notice of any necessary absences with as much notice as possible. These meetings are generally held on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 7pm. 
  • Commit to reading through and confirming understanding of the agenda and minutes of any missed meetings in order to remain informed. 
  • Attend the (2) mandatory in-person board meetings (usually held in May and December). Attend both Professional Networking Soirees, held in April & November on Thursday evenings. 
  • Attend at least (1) of the large-scale events hosted during the calendar year including: the C.I.T.Y. Tribute Concert in February, the Graduation Celebration in June, and/or the Parent Retreat in September. 
  • Participate in relevant leadership development and self-reflection exercises to increase my effectiveness as an active, contributing board member at least 1x/year. 
  • Use effective communication practices including: active listening to all members; keeping an open mind; contributing positively to discussions; creating an inclusive atmosphere; managing any conflicts quickly 
  • Receive approval of the board prior to: 1) Purchasing any items on behalf of C.I.T.Y. of Support; 2) Posting information on social media platforms on behalf of the board; 3) Using C.I.T.Y. of Support’s name/logo; 4) Moving forward with event plans. 
  • Alert the board to any potential conflicts of interest. I understand that self-promotion/solicitation of any kind will not be tolerated as a board member, and that my participation is as a volunteer working on behalf of the larger C.I.T.Y. of Support organization. 
  • Indemnify, defend and hold C.I.T.Y. of Support harmless from any and all claims of or actions claiming liability or responsibility initiated, brought or filed by or on behalf of any board member claiming or alleging any injuries, damages, or consequences as a result of or caused by participation in this organization. 
  • Represent the C.I.T.Y. of Support organization in a professional, responsible, & respectful manner at all times.
